Sara Deleu studied veterinary medicine (UGent) and graduated in 2019. During her study, she completed several internships at the lab of veterinary public health and virology. Moreover, her master thesis was investigating the role of the gut microbiome in cow’s milk allergy in children. Upon graduation, she started a PhD in biomedical sciences at KU Leuven (2019). Her research is funded by the VIB grand challenges under the framework of the MIMOSA-project and focusses on the modulation of the gut microbiome in IBD management. Moreover, she will investigate the sharp demarcation which is often observed in ulcerative colitis patients, for which she received the BIRD research grant in 2021.
