Elke Piters
Elke Piters, IOF Manager GUT-consortium at KU Leuven
Elke Piters is a Biomedical Scientist who obtained her PhD in the area of medical genetics in 2010 (“Genetic & functional analysis of the role of Wnt/β‐catenin signaling in bone formation") at the University of Antwerp.
She continued her academic career under the supervision of Prof. Wim Van Hul at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Antwerp, until she moved to pharmaceutical industry in 2012. She held different roles in pharma, mostly in managing and communicating scientific and clinical data.
From May 2018 to December 2023, she worked as Medical Science Liaison for a leading company in Gastroenterology focusing on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In this role, she was instrumental in engaging with external stakeholders and passionate about setting up collaborations to advance scientific research and clinical medicine. She has a deep knowledge of clinical research and pharma business acumen.
As from 8 Jan 2024, Elke will be working as Innovation Manager at the University of Leuven where she will mainly be supporting the GUT-consortium which aims to identify novel therapeutic targets and prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers for IBD and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
